Flip your phone over face down for privacy.
Using voice conference apps and need a fast and simple way to mute and unmute your mic? We’ve got you covered!
Place your phone facing down, and this android app will mute your mic. It will also work if you cover the proximity sensor with your hand or place the phone in your pocket.
You can also use this app for muting temporarily while on a multiplayer game.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Most modern smartphones have a proximity sensor that detects when you hold your phone against your face during a call in order to turn off the screen while you talk.
Flip2Mute uses this sensor to detect if you have flipped the phone face down or have your hand close to the sensor. Once detected, it turns off the microphone on your phone so you can privately talk to the toddler that just barged into your business meeting.
HOW DO I USE Flip2Mute?
When you are about to start a meeting, open Flip2Mute. Make sure the main switch is activated and says "Enabled".
The application will show a notification to indicate to you that the app is running and ready to mute the mic as soon as you cover the proximity sensor.
WHERE IS THE PROXIMITY SENSOR ON MY PHONE?
Most phones have the proximity sensor on the top of the front face of the phone. Sometimes it is close to front facing camera.
You can find where the proximity sensor is if you open the Flip2Mute app, make sure the switch is enabled, and then slowly move your finger near the top of the front face of your phone until at the bottom of the app, it says "Microphone is off"
WILL Flip2Mute WORK ON MY TABLET?
Many tablets do NOT have a proximity sensor (because this sensor is mainly used for phone calls). For now you are out of luck.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE APP IS WORKING?
When you enable the application, a notification icon should appear on your notification bar. As long as it is visible, the app is checking to see if you have flipped the phone over or covered the sensor.
To see if the sensor is detecting correctly, make sure the main switch is enabled and then hold your hand over the screen and check that on the bottom of the main app screen it should switch between "Microphone is on" and "Microphone is off".
If you want to make 100% sure, you can send a voice note with the front face of the phone covered and play it back. You should not hear anything.
