The 20 teams face each other on a home and away basis and, at the end of the 38 rounds, the team with the highest number of points will be awarded the Brazilian title, while the last four are relegated to Série B. tiebreaker criteria:

1) more victories,
2) best goal difference,
3) more pro goals,
4) direct confrontation,
5) fewer red cards,
6) fewer yellow cards,
7) raffle.

The top four enter the group stage of Libertadores 2024, while the fifth and sixth placed compete in the previous stages of Libertadores. If the Libertadores champion and/or the Copa do Brasil champion and/or the Sudamericana champion are in the G-6, the next team guarantees a place in the continental competition.
