Witr prayer in Islam is a type of naafil prayer, which is prayed at night. It is a rak’ah that concludes the night prayer, before which you pray as intercession. Its ruling is a confirmed Sunnah according to the majority, and it is obligatory according to the Hanafi school. It is: the rak’ah and what is added before it from the night prayer, two by two. The most witr is eleven rak'ahs, and the least is three rak'ahs, or one rak'ah that concludes an intercession of the prayer before it. Its time begins with the evening prayer, and continues until the break of the second dawn. Witr language: the individual or what did not intercede from the number. Owtrah i.e. single it out. Al-Lihyani said: The people of Hijaz call the individual Witr.
