Who is Imam Ali bin Abi Talib?
Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Abi Talib al-Hashimi al-Qurashi (13 Rajab 23 AH / 17 March 599 AD - 21 Ramadan 40 AH / 27 January 661 AD), cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah, from his family, and one of his companions, is the fourth of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs at the time. Sunnis and one of the ten missionaries of Paradise and the first imams among the Shiites.
He was born in Mecca, and history sources indicate that his birth was in the hollow of the Kaaba, and his mother was Fatima bint Asad, the Hashemite. He embraced Islam before the Prophet's migration, and he is the second or third people to enter Islam, and the first of the boys to embrace Islam. He immigrated to Medina three days after the Prophet’s emigration, and his brother the Prophet Muhammad with himself when he became fraternal among Muslims, and his daughter Fatimah in the second year of migration.
Ali participated in all the battles of the Prophet except for the Battle of Tabuk, in which the Prophet Muhammad succeeded him over Medina. He was known for his intensity and skill in fighting, and he was an important factor in the victory of Muslims in various battles, most notably the Battle of the Trench and the Battle of Khaybar. Ali was trusted by the Prophet Muhammad. He was one of the writers of revelation and one of his most important ambassadors and ministers.
The status of Ali bin Abi Talib and his relationship with the companions of the Messenger is the subject of a historical and ideological dispute between the various Islamic sects, some of them believe that God chose him as the guardian, imam and successor of the Muslims, and that Muhammad announced this in the Ghadir sermon, so they considered that choosing Abu Bakr to succeed the Muslims was contrary to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad They also see that the relationship of some of the Companions with him was strained. On the contrary, some of them deny the occurrence of such an inauguration, and consider that the relationship of the Prophet’s companions with him was good and stable. The difference in belief about Ali is the root cause of conflict between Sunnis and Shiites over the ages.
He was pledged to the caliphate in the year 35 AH (656 AD) in Medina, and the rule of five years and three months was described as political instability, but it was marked by tangible civilized progress, especially in the capital of the new caliphate, Kufa. Many battles took place because of the strife, which is an extension of the sedition of the killing of Othman, which led to the dispersal of the ranks of the Muslims and their division to the Shiites of Ali the legitimate caliph, and the Shiites of Uthman who demanded his blood on their head Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan, who fought him in Siffin, and Aisha bint Abi Bakr with her Talha bin Obaid Allah and Al-Zubair bin the common people who fought him on the day of the camel because of a fitna that some caused in order to fight them; A group known as the Kharijites came out against Ali and defeated them in Nahrawan, and groups appeared hostile to him and repudiated his rule and politics, they were called the Nawasib, and perhaps the most prominent of them were the Kharijites. He was martyred at the hands of Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam in Ramadan in the year 40 AH 661 AD.
