International Nurses Day is a day for people to show their appreciation towards nurses. This special day will be celebrated on 12 May every year. It is celebrated around the world to mark the contributions nurses make to the society. In January 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.

Nurses advocate for health promotion, educate patients and the public on the prevention of illness and injury, provide care and assist in cure, participate in rehabilitation, and provide support. Nurses do more than care for individuals. They have always have been at the forefront of change in health care and public health.
