The NREGA Job Card (NREGA) (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) was passed on October 2, 2005. It was first started in India on 2 February 2006 in Anantapur village of Bandavali district of Andhra Pradesh. Initially this scheme was implemented in about 200 districts. Later it was implemented in the entire country on April 1, 2008.

The scheme essentially provides 100 days of employment to adult members of any rural household within a radius of five kilometers from home in every financial year. In 2009, the name of this scheme was changed to MNREGA.
MNREGA is a source of employment for the people of rural areas. To provide employment to BPL families near their homes, the central government had come up with the MNREGA scheme. This scheme is applicable across the country.

Under MNREGA, many types of works are done by the workers. Some of these are as follows-

Plantation.
water conservation.
Drought prevention.
flood control.
land development.
housing construction.
Minor Irrigation.
Horticulture.
