The English-Indonesian dictionary is a bilingual dictionary published by Gramedia Main Library compiled by an American linguist named John M. Echols, and an Indonesian linguist named Hassan Shadily. This dictionary has tens of thousands of entries, phonetic writings that accompany each entry to find out how to pronounce, word class explanations, additional explanations of word meanings based on certain disciplines, and examples of using words in sentences to facilitate understanding. This dictionary greatly influences the development of English in Indonesia, so English in Indonesia is more nuanced in the United States than English in the United Kingdom. This makes Indonesia speak English with a different dialect from neighboring countries which are influenced by the British state due to occupation such as Malaysia and Singapore.
