What is the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)

The PHA determines eligibility for a housing voucher based on total annual gross income and family size. By law, a PHA must provide 75% of its vouchers to applicants whose income does not exceed 30% of the area median income. Median income levels are published by HUD and vary by location. The PHA serving your community can provide you with income limits for your area and family size.

During the HUD application process, the PHA will collect information about your family's income, assets, and family composition.
