How not to be depressed - How not to let depression dominate your life
Everyone suffers from depression. It is a part of life. Some people have chemical imbalances that make it difficult to get out of depression without taking a lot of medication. However, sometimes medication is not enough and sometimes the side effects are worse than true depression. So, let's look at some of the ways to make it easy to get rid of depression.
I was suffering from "severe depression". I started taking the medication at the age of twelve. Little was known about depression at the time and they did take pills. I have no chemical abnormalities whatsoever. In fact, my depression stems from life events outside of my control. My mother and grandmother died in a car accident when I was 8 years old. I was sent to live with my father and my wife. Let's just say he's not very friendly. Someday I will write a book on that I'm sure. One of those books that you just can't leave and you end up wondering why the author didn't turn out to be a serial killer as a result.
I hated the pills and when I told them they were not working they increased my dose. I lied and told them they worked until they ended up lowering the dose so I stopped taking it and vowed not to. What I find are very simple things that work for me. Helping me crawl out of that hole isn't the responsibility of anyone but me. I have added a few to the list of things that can help me fight depression. Now, let me just say my method may not work for everyone. Use your judgment and the advice of your doctor. I don't want to be sued just because someone has stopped taking the pill on my advice. So let me tell you now, if you stop using drugs, you are doing it of your own free will and not because of anything I've written here. (Is this a disclaimer?)
How not to be depressed
After all, I've written some completely free tips. Just some suggestions ... not even that, just a list of what worked for me.
If you don't want to read everything, then at least consider some Quick Tips.
Color is great. A person who is not depressed can become this way quickly if surrounded by dark colors such as brown. If you can't afford the paint or your house is full of panels, hang some pretty pictures or fabrics. Have some kids draw some colors.
Set simple goals each day that will help you get up and move. Even if all you do is make the bed, it's so much better than nothing!
Watch the children playing. Try to remember a time when you found joy in the simple things that made them smile. One of my favorite things as a kid was lying under a tree and looking up. I tend to forget it until Christmas when my son is lying with me under the tree and looking.
It's really just simple things that can help.
