Welcome to the historic city of Mound Bayou, called "the Jewel of the Delta". Settled July 12, 1887 by ex-slaves Joe Davis, who conceived the idea before Civil War: Isaiah T. Montgomery (member of 1890 state convention) & his cousin, Benjamin T. Green, Mound Bayou became the largest all Black town in the United States. Located in Bolivar County along Highway 61 in the central Mississippi Delta, Mound Bayou has a long history of self sufficiency and excellence in Business and Healthcare. Current leadership and residents are committed to preserving the legacy of Mound Bayou as an important place in the American Civil Rights movement.
