All changes which ensued over the last century - demographic, cultural, environmental or social in nature - have radically transformed the way in which we inhabit domestic space, increasingly turning it into a veritable ‘home system’. Over the last twenty years, all technological and digital innovations have led to changes in habits and lifestyles in both public and private spheres of behaviour. This has also had a resounding effect on home space fruition. Behaviour has embraced concepts like multitasking and the home system has duly evolved in this sense, accompanying the living evolution of those who genuinely inhabit their home. Little over thirty years ago, homes were still characterised by defined and static spaces, in which each action and function was designed to be carried out just like in previous years and centuries. In more recent times, the challenge for designers and interior designers has been to provide answers and solutions to these new living requirements, striving to reconcile an array of needs: taste, style, quality, finishings and harmony. New home systems must be flexible, transformable, configurable, customisable, while also guaranteeing a full array of smart functionalities, aligned with the same intelligence that users can access on their devices and numerous objects of everyday use which have embraced the digital transformation.
