LEAP for Health is an app designed for healthcare providers to work more effectively with LGBTQ+ patients. Given the unique health challenges among LGBTQ+ communities, the app is meant to serve as an educational tool for clinicians to better understand community health needs and equitably serve the LGBTQ+ patient population.
LEAP for Health was created through a partnership with a student-faculty team at the University of Texas at Austin, Solidarity and Action Against the HIV Infection in India (SAATHII), and Nirangal. Headquartered in Chennai, SAATHII works to increase access to rights, stigma-free health, and social services through community support, information dissemination, research, advocacy, and training. Nirangal aims to end discrimination and violence against gender and sexuality minorities and sex workers in the state of Tamil Nadu by providing support services such as workshops, sensitization training, peer counseling, and collective organization.
This app initiative is funded by the President’s Award for Global Learning. The grant supports cross-cultural collaborations between the University of Texas at Austin and international NGOs to pursue innovative social impact projects.
