Inari is the largest municipality in Finland and one of the largest and most international tourist destinations.
Inari is a neighbor of Norway and Russia and in close co-operation with border counties. Due to its central location, Inari has been a meeting place for cultures of all time and a natural trail to the Arctic Ocean and the Kola Peninsula. The European Union's northernmost border crossings to Norway and Russia, to the Barents Sea, are in Inari. Connections are referred to as the Arctic Ocean Corridor. Inari's position in the Barents context is reinforced by its location on the European highway network. The Ivalo International Airport, which serves approximately 140,000 passengers annually, provides fast connections to the rest of the world.
In the municipality, three different Sámi languages are officially used alongside Finnish; North Sami, Inari Sámi and Coltan Sámi. About one third of Inari people are Sámi. Two-thirds of the population in the municipality of Inari live in the center town, Ivalo, the largest village in the municipality. The capacity of municipalities and companies to act internationally will be increased through education, active project activities, improving the international operating environment, and supporting the internationalization efforts of companies and communities.
