The objective of this app is the development and implementation of an augmented reality technological tool applied to the main war locations of the Spanish Civil War located in the municipalities of Aín, Alcudia de Veo, Espadilla, Suera, and Villamalur, to create a new, unique and enriching tourist experience for visitors and tourists.
Historical Context of the Memorial Spaces
The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was a conflict that occurred after the failed coup d'état of July 17 and 18, 1936, carried out by a section of the armed forces against the democratic government of the Second Republic (1931-1939). It pitted the Republican side, loyal to the elected government, against the Nationalist side, led by the rebel general Francisco Franco.
The Battle of Levante
After the Battle of Teruel (December 1937–February 1938), with the Republican territory split in two, Franco advanced southward, suffering one of his few defeats: in the Battle of Levante (April–December 1938), he encountered difficult terrain and a Republican army well organized by Generals Vicente Rojo and Leopoldo Menéndez.
Thus was born the XYZ Line, which served to neutralize Franco's artillery and air forces and stabilize the front, allowing for the reorganization of the Republican rearguard. It extended more than 150 km, from Almenara (Castellón) to Santa Cruz de Moya (Cuenca), with countless defensive structures spread across 14 Resistance Sectors. The territories of Espadán and the Mijares River were divided between the Francoist vanguard, to the north, with its own structures, and the Republican resistance, to the south.
