In the foreword, Nietzsche states that he wrote the book for a very small audience. He claims that the reader "must be honest in intellectual matters to the point of hardness to so much as endure my seriousness, my passion" in order to understand the book. Politics and nationalism should not concern the reader. Moreover, it is unnecessary to worry about whether the truth is beneficial or detrimental. Additionally, traits like "strength that likes questions no one today is enough dare to answer; courage for the forbidden" are required. He ignores every other reader. 



According to Nietzsche, a free spirit represents the transvaluation of all values. According to Nietzsche, the scientific approach of seeking knowledge and the truth was mocked and derided before his time. A subdued, circumspect, humble demeanour was viewed with contempt. Because of our current modesty, we must admit that humans are sprung from animals, not from gods. Man is not superior to other creatures, as we also know. We have discovered a lot about the physiology of man by turning him into a mindless machine. We now understand that will is a required response to a stimulus. Instinct is the source of consciousness and spirit.
