Most modern Catholics are still vaguely aware that priests once celebrated Holy Mass in Latin, standing facing the altar. Holy Communion for the faithful was received in the most dignified form, only in the form of bread, on the knees and in the mouth, and the space between the priest and the faithful was separated by the so-called balaskis, i.e. kneelers covered with a white tablecloth. The Holy Mass celebrated in Latin, in the classical Roman rite, is colloquially called the "Tridentine Mass" or the "Mass of All Times." The colloquial term "Tridentine" comes from the name of the Council of Trent from the mid-16th century, by order of which Saint. Pope Pius V announced the unification of the liturgy, the history of which dates back practically 1,200 years.
