P.P. Sri Sadhguru Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami Maharaj composed the book Sridatta Purana in Sanskrit language by extracting the essence of Sarva Purana and its themes are knowledge, karma and worship. In 1823 (year 1901) due to the lack of knowledge of Sanskrit in the society, he wrote a Prakrit Ovibanddha treatise 'Sri Datta Mahatmya' on the Upasana Kanda of Sri Datta Purana. This book has fifty one chapters and five thousand four hundred ova. Shri Maharaj has given Upanishad knowledge in this and the book mainly includes biographies and philosophy of four devotees namely Navavidha Bhakti, Sahastrarjuna, Alark, Ayu and Yadu. In the last chapter, Sri Maharaja has prayed to Sri Dattatreya that the Lord should keep his presence in this book. This is a prose adaptation of such a royal treatise.
