Rickshaw is one of the principal means of transport in the urban areas of Bangladesh. With the improvement of road communication throughout the country, rickshaw has now found their way into rural areas as well. Dhaka got rickshaws from Calcutta, where it was first introduced around 1930. European jute exporters living in Narayanganj and Netrokona (in Mymensingh) had first imported rickshaw from Calcutta in 1938 for their personal use. The new vehicle got great curiosity among the people of Dhaka, who were traditionally used to horse carriages, palanquins and city-canal boats. Initially, rickshaws did not receive enthusiastic responses from users.

Fast-forwarding today, we have more than 1.1 million (10 lakh+) rickshaws in Dhaka city. And rickshaw fares are getting ridiculous each and every day as rickshaw pullers sometimes demand an unnecessary high fare. Things get more intense if you are not well-aware of the regular fare of a place, sometime rickshaw pullers demand 5-10 times the higher fare.

The rickshaw Vara app aims to ease this problem. This app aggregates regular fare information from people like you to serve users up-to-date and nearly accurate rickshaw fares od Dhaka city.

Initially starting with only Dhaka city but eventually more cities will be introduced very soon.
