Pycnonotus jocosus, also known as the red-whiskered bulbul, is not native to Australia; however, it has established small populations in other countries as well.It is also commonly kept as a pet both in this country and in other countries. The immature bird has a darker coloring, and its crest is not as long. It does not have a red whisker mark, and the feathers on the underside of its tail may be pink or orange-tinged, but it does still have white cheek patches. In many cases, the presence of a bird can be determined from its call, which is a distinctive musical whistle that gets lower as it continues. There is a lot of chirping coming from the birds as they forage for food among the bushes.
