The origin of the novena dates back to the time of Christ. Once Mary and the faithful apostles of Jesus saw his ascension, they prayed for nine days until Pentecost Sunday. The novena then became a Catholic practice when an important solemnity is expected or to make a great request to God. The name novena comes from the Latin novenus, which means ninth. Many of the most important novenas were recited by women and men of great spirituality and rectitude, such as Bernadette Soubirous, the young peasant woman to whom the Blessed Virgin appeared in Lourdes.
A particularly significant novena is the one dedicated to Merciful Love, which falls on January 30 and whose initiator was Mother Speranza who, in Collevalenza, wanted to institute the cult of this beautiful quality that Christ told us to confess and we demonstrate: selfless love for others.
We are volunteers and this application was created to be able to use the Novena for free, to be able to pray wherever you are, and which will be improved periodically, according to user requests. Thank you for choosing us and we hope you will share with your friends!
