The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature was established in 1966 as a national, non-governmental organization. As soon as the association was established, it was chaired by the late His Majesty King Hussein as the Supreme Honorable President. The Jordanian government has delegated the association the responsibility of protecting wildlife and biodiversity in all regions of the Kingdom, and the association is considered one of the first institutions to have this mandate not only in the Middle East, but also at the global level. The association has gained international fame for its leadership in integrating nature conservation programs with socio-economic development.

The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature has made many achievements, on top of which is the establishment of ten protected areas on an area of ​​1,200 square kilometers, which include the best natural environments in Jordan and where wild plants and animals live.

The association has been very successful in re-breeding the endangered Arabian oryx, reintroducing the deer and the body to wildlife, which is considered a pioneering step in preserving the biodiversity in the region, and controlling and preserving the over-hunting of these endangered species throughout the Kingdom.

More than 1000 Nature Conservation Clubs have been established in schools, to enrich children’s awareness of environmental issues by making them active participants in conservation activities and projects.

Another task of the RSCN team is to develop nature conservation programs on a large scale, aiming to integrate nature protection with the socio-economic development of the local population.
