Al-Fil (Arabic: الفيل - Elephant) - one hundred and fifth Surah of the Quran. Meccan Sura. Consists of 5 verses.

The Surah tells of the owners of the elephant, who intended to destroy the Forbidden House of Allah, and draws attention to the edification contained in this story.

This surah tells of the campaign of Abrahi al-Ashram, who went from Yemen to Mecca with the goal of destroying the Kaaba in order to ward off the Arab pilgrims from it. He gathered a large army, part of which rode elephants. This army went to Hijaz and was located in al-Magmas, on the way to at-Taif, where clashes occurred between the army of Abrahi and the Arabs. But this campaign ended in failure due to the many difficulties that they met on the part of the Yemeni and Hijaz tribes, and because of the epidemic that gripped the army. He returned to his country, having lost most of his army and not reaching his goal. This campaign, which occurred in 570 or 571, was included in the calendar of the Arab pre-Islamic Hejaz under the name "Year of the Elephant." Prophet Muhammad was born in the same year.

There is a version that the campaign ended at the wadi (valley) of Muhassir, located between Muzdalifa and Mina. When Abrahi al-Ashram prepared for the attack, Allah sent huge flocks of birds to his army, which threw soldiers with pieces of petrified clay (sigil), turning them into a kind of “eaten leaves”. His army had a large number of Ethiopians and elephants.
