The SCR Civil Defence App is a digital initiative by South Central Railway (SCR), Indian Railways, designed to streamline and modernize the Civil Defence volunteer registration and management process. Developed in line with the Government of India’s vision for efficient, paperless administration, this Android-based application serves as a single-window platform for Civil Defence volunteers across SCR divisions.

Civil Defence in India plays a vital role in disaster preparedness and national emergency response. Its primary objectives are to protect lives, reduce property loss, ensure public morale, and assist in maintaining essential services during crises—be it war, natural calamities, or man-made disasters.

The Civil Defence Act, 1968, amended in 2009, expanded the organization’s role to cover disaster management comprehensively. Volunteers support civil and military authorities during emergencies, engaging in rescue, relief, and recovery operations. Today, Civil Defence also addresses modern threats like nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare, as well as natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes.

Civil Defence is organized on a largely voluntary basis, with a current national target of over 14 lakh volunteers. Volunteers receive training in three tiers: Local, State, and National levels, ensuring preparedness across all administrative levels.

Formal permission is being sought to use the official branding from the Civil Defence SCR website, and validation can be provided through the Civil Defence Office of South Central Railway.
