Gastronomy means the doctrine of finer cuisine. The words are composed of gastros (stomach) and nomos (doctrine), and therefore basically mean the teaching of the stomach or the doctrine of regulating the stomach. The art lies not only in cooking, but also the way it is served and what it is served with. Gastropub is a term first used in London in 1991 by the gastropub "The Eagle". The concept was used because they wanted a concept that not only served good drinks, but which combined this with delicious food. Pub food served at traditional gastropubs is often inspired by British cuisine. There you will find dishes such as steak and ale pie, shepherd's pie, sunday roast, fish & chips and bangers & mash. More recently, international specialties such as hamburgers, chips, lasagna and chili con carne have been added to the designation.
