Sole Power is a free green commuting challenge for the Eagle County, Colorado community. The challenge runs each year from Memorial Day through Indigenous People's Day. Sole Power is a great way to get to work, have fun, save money, and get fit over the summer season. Throughout the season there are social events, mini competitions, and weekly prize drawings. It doesn’t matter how you commute: walk, bike, e-bike, run, skate, etc. As long as it is not in a motor vehicle, you are welcome to join.
All of that fun stuff aside, it helps to reduce carbon emissions and reduce our impact on the planet! Transportation is the second leading cause of carbon emissions in Vail and Eagle County. Sole Power is a great program to incentivize people to use their human power to commute instead of a vehicle. Sign up by downloading the Sole Power mobile app.
Use the Sole Power mobile app to auto track your green commuting trips for errands, social events and work using human powered options instead of driving. There is also an option to manually log trips in the app as well. The Sole Power app keeps track all of your green commuting trips that you log and keeps a record of historic trips as well. You can earn badges as you achieve different milestones. You can participate as an individual or join a team. There is a community feed to receive information about upcoming Sole Power events, communicate respectfully with other participants, and share milestones achieved. The app is available in English and Spanish.
Why Participate?
Why not? Human powered commuting is a great way to exercise, it can be fun, it saves money, and it helps reduce our impact on the planet. Imagine how much money you can save with fewer fuel bills. If those reasons are not enough- do it for the prizes, the parties, and the friendly competition. Challenge a friend, challenge a rival business or club, challenge yourself. Sole Power is a great way to meet people around the Vail Valley and Eagle County at our social events.
Who is this provided by?
Sole Power is supported by the Town of Vail and several generous community sponsors in Eagle County. The goal is to promote healthy lifestyles, incentivize alternative transportation, encourage community engagement, reduce our carbon footprint, and of course to have fun.
What is the purpose?
The purpose of Sole Power is to provide a fun way to reduce our carbon footprint, get fit, and save money all at the same time. Summer is a beautiful time in the Rocky Mountains, and there are some amazing trail road and trail connectivity in the valley. The challenge encourages healthy and active lifestyles and takes advantage of the non-motorized transportation infrastructure in Eagle County. The collective goal is to log 60,000 miles of human powered commuting each year.
Individual and Team Leaderboards
There are two leaderboard options that you can look at on the Sole Power mobile app. The individual leaderboard will include the total number of trips, total mileage logged, rank and badges earned. You can click into each participant to see additional information like fuel saved, carbon emissions reduced, and trips logged. The team leaderboard will show trip and mileage totals for each team that has been registered. In the team leaderboard, you can click on a team to see each team member and their trips logged. Specific trip routes are not available for privacy purposes.
