Trees are what make our towns and villages worth living in. They are pleasing to the eye and heart, you can lean against them, they provide shade and good air. But sadly they are also threatened. Especially drought and diseases are challening, often resulting in choping them down.
With the "My tree" app, you can do something for your favorite tree:
- Register your tree and tell us how it is doing.
- Share your observations and discover other tree lovers' favorite trees.
- Collect data about the trees in your area: this will help to care for and protect them.
- Get active with others and take part in tree protection campaigns.
In this way, we can work together to raise awareness of the trees in our area. This is important because trees in towns and along roads often have a difficult life: Between concrete, asphalt and traffic, they languish. Due to climate crisis, heat and thirst are causing them even more trouble. So they are often cut down ruthlessly. However, trees are the lungs of our cities and real treasure chests of biodiversity. They are essential for us and provide a home for lots of birds, insects and mammals, such as squirrels.
Together, we want to give our trees a voice. To do this, we need to learn more about the trees in our towns and villages. Because the more we know about them, the better we can protect them. Together with you, we want to find out, where and what kind of trees they are and what condition they are in. No previous knowledge is necessary!
Over time, we will create a map of all urban trees in Bavaria. If a tree needs us, it will be much easier to organize help. And if necessary, we can show how many people stand behind their trees so that fewer trees are choped down and instead are cared for in a better way.
The data you collect flows directly into scientific studies. BUND Naturschutz (BN) and its partners, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HWST), use this data to analyse trends, develop conservation measures and answer scientific questions.
