The FitGaaf! app uses the power of gamification to support kids and parents / carers in a playful and positive way to live a sustainable healthy life. Fun retro-style minigames increase "healthy knowledge" about healthy eating, drinking, exercise and sleeping. And on a digital calendar, healthy stickers can be placed for healthy eating, drinking, exercising and sleeping every day. These stickers are always a reward for making healthy choices and provide insight into your own 'healthy behavior': what is already going very well? And what could be better?
In addition, extra points can be earned for "healthy action". These are healthy actions in real life, in their own municipality. For example, buy fruit and vegetables at the local supermarket, take a nice walk in the woods together or sign up for a free trial training at the local sports club.
FitGaaf! is a nationally recognized method that supports children and parents / carers in realizing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. By rewarding healthy behavior (food, exercise and sleep) and making healthy choices extra fun! FitGaaf! offers various tools in which behavioral psychology and gamification play an essential role.
As a preventive intervention, the FitGaaf! Method strengthens health skills according to didactic principles such as experiential learning, intuitive learning and reflection. Theoretical foundation for stimulating behavior and behavioral change comes from the Stages of Change model (Prochaska and Di Clemente, 1983), social cognitive learning theory (Bandura, 2010) and literature from behavioral psychology on reward, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and overjustification (van Duijvenvoorde et al., 2008). (Cerasoli et al., 2014). Scientifically and proves tangible reward in the form of stickers is effective for giving children a taste of something new (Cooke, Chambers, Anez, & Wardle, 2011) and for making healthy choices (Samek, 2016).
Based on dynamic systems theory (Saunders, 1993) Carriere, 2009), preventive intervention Fitgaaf !, by actively involving parents and, for example, teachers, also aims to positively change the most important contextual factors in the child's environment. This increases the chances that the child can achieve a stable intervention effect in the longer term.
FitGaaf! has been listed as a preventive intervention in the RIVM intervention database of the Center for Healthy Living since 2015 and now has the recognition status 'Well-founded'. This means that the efficacy is solidly substantiated with models, theory and literature. FitGaaf! is also a recognized Healthy School and Healthy Childcare activity, recognized by the Knowledge Center for Sport and partner of Alles is Health.
The FitGaaf! App was developed by FitGaaf !, game builders from Indietopia and app builders from Studio ander Koek.
