And the third in terms of length after Surat Al-Baqarah and An-Nisa. Its verses are two hundred and six. It is a Meccan surah unanimously, and it was said about that on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them and others.

The well-known name for this surah is Al-A'raf, and this name has been mentioned in some hadiths, as will be shown below. The reason for this name; He mentioned it to the owners of the customs in the Almighty’s saying: {And over the customs are men} (Al-A’raf: 46), and the Almighty’s saying: “And he called the owners of the customs” (Al-A’raf: 48), and (Al-A’raf) is the barrier between Heaven and Hell, and the barrier from the people of Hell reaching Heaven. . Al-Tabari narrated on the authority of Al-Suddi that he said in the Almighty’s saying: {And between them is a veil} (Al-A’raf: 46), he said: It is the wall, and it is (Al-A’raf).

And Al-Fayrouz Abadi mentioned in “Insights of the Disciples” that this surah is called Surat Al-Miqat; Because it includes a mention of the timing of Moses, peace be upon him, in the Almighty’s verse: {And when Moses came to Our appointed time} (Al-A’raf: 143).

He also mentioned that it is called Surat Al-Miqtaq; Because it includes the hadith of the Covenant in the Almighty’s saying: {And when your Lord took from the children of Adam from their backs their offspring and made them bear witness against themselves, am I not by your Lord? They said, “Yes, we bear witness” (Al-A’raf: 177).
