There are many rulings in Surat Al-Mujadila, and among these rulings is the ruling on zihaar, and what is meant by zihaar is for a man to say to his wife: “You are to me as my mother’s back,” or other forbidden things, or he says to her: “You are forbidden to me.” At that time, his wife is forbidden to him and it is not permissible He may cohabit with her, as with her husbands, except after he has expiated for his oath.

The expiation for zihaar has already been mentioned in the story of Aws bin al-Samit and Khawla bint Tha’labah, may God be pleased with them, and many benefits can be deduced from this story, including the humility of the Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - with the Companions, may God be pleased with them, and his concern for them, and his concern for them. Because of his many responsibilities and occupations, he used to free himself to listen to their complaints and solve their everyday and ordinary problems.
