Surat Maryam, the nineteenth surah in the Qur’an, and it is one of the Meccan surahs, except for verses 58 and 71, which are civil. The number of its verses is 98, and there is a prostration in verse 58, and it is located in the sixteenth part. It was revealed after Surat Fatir. And the surah was named after the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, to be the only surah in the Qur’an that was named after a woman.

The surah begins with the story of Zakaria when he called God a secret supplication, i.e. from the heart, to make him a guardian or a successor, so God responded to him and granted him Yahya. Then he speaks to him, God willing, to say and confirm that his mother Mary is the most honorable woman on earth, and then addresses the people and mentions to them that God commanded him to pray, give alms and honor his mother. After that he mentions the story of Abraham with his father and how he used to call his father to stop worshiping idols, then he mentions the prophets whom God blessed them with and how he succeeded after them who forgot prayer and followed their desires. And almost at the end of the surah, he denounced how those who polytheists and those who disbelieve said that God took a son, stressing that he should not do this, because everyone in the heavens and the earth are servants of the Most Merciful.

The order of Surah Maryam
The order of Surat Maryam is 19 with respect to the 114 chapters that are the total of the chapters of the Qur'an, and it is located in the sixteenth part of the thirty parts of the Qur'an. Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti mentioned Surat Maryam in his book Secrets of the Order of the Qur’an, where he wrote that the reason for the occurrence of Surat Maryam immediately after Surat Al-Kahf, not elsewhere is that Surat Al-Kahf contains marvels and miracles, represented in the story of the owners of the cave and their long stay in the cave without food or drink. , as well as the story of Moses with Al-Khidr and the story of Dhul-Qarnayn and the construction of the dam. Therefore, it is natural for Surat Maryam to be mentioned after Surat Al-Kahf because it contains two miracles: the birth of Yahya and the virgin birth of Christ.
