However, according to the jurists’ custom, if they say: Prayer for rain, they only mean praying for rain from the Lord - the Almighty - and not praying for rain for a created being. Prayer for rain is a confirmed Sunnah, and several hadiths were reported from the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, regarding rain, including the hadith of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, who said: “The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, went out one day to pray for rain, and he prayed with us two rak’ahs without adhan or iqamah, then he addressed us and called upon God Almighty, and turned his face towards Qiblah, raising his hands, then turning his robe, making the right hand the left and the left the right.” Narrated by Ahmad and its narrators are trustworthy.
