Tawassul is one way to pray. There are so many ways to pray to be granted by God, such as praying in the last third of the night, praying at Maqam Multazam, praying by preceding it with the reading of Alhamdulillah and Sholawat and asking for prayers to pious people. Likewise tawassul is one of the efforts so that the prayers that we pray are accepted and answered by God s.t. Thus, tawasul is an alternative in prayer and is not a necessity.

Tawasul is praying to Allah through intermediaries. One of the foundations is:

O you who believe, fear Allah and seek a way (beware) that draws closer to Him, ....
(Surat al-Ma'idah 5:35)
