Every year, India generates millions of tons of plastic waste. A significantly large country with a relatively huge population, India produces enough plastic waste per year to account for 1/5th of the world’s plastic pollution. When disposed of, much of this plastic is generally burned or ends up in the ocean or in landfills, which causes environmental pollution beyond the dangers of plastic alone.
Plastic, when disposed of, is a huge threat to multiple species of animals, and to the general wellbeing of people in the vicinity. Plastic takes thousands of years to decompose, it kills animals and birds who swallow it, and it trashes our oceans and land. A large part of the reason why India is so poor with plastic waste management is due to the lack of awareness and education about sustainable practices.
Plastic waste can be reused and recycled, it can be turned into practical, usable products which in turn create a circular economy. This means that what we think of as ‘waste’, is turned into something of value, and this circle continues till the plastic has completely decomposed.
By learning about innovative and sustainable ways to treat plastic waste, we can end a very huge problem for the country. Say goodbye to plastic-laden roads and oceans, say hello to a world that is constantly evolving, growing, and figuring out the way to a safe and sustainable future. TetraTrack was created to help this very cause - to make plastic waste usable again, to minimise its harmful effects, and to reinvent the way we understand waste.
