Thoknath (Nuer) App provides full features and capabilities to write and speak in the Nuer language (Thoknath) in the digital landscape. Spoken by around 5 million people in South Sudan, East Africa (Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda), and the Diaspora, the language has rapidly advanced and spread across the globe necessitating its digitization. In recent years, we have discovered that there are many challenges to the survival and continuation of the Nuer language. Due to the complex world in which we live, the world is a globalized society where many people leave their home countries and migrate while others flee for their own safety. This leads people to leave their own mother tongues and adopt the use of the languages that are dominant in the areas to which they are drawn. Many of those who come as immigrants or refugees, particularly in the Diaspora, end up living in cities, where the intensity of the major languages of these adoptive nations is spoken. The local also see the need and desire to learn the Nuer language. This reality was at the heart of the Thoknath – the Nuer language’s expansion and digitization.
