The game of Macau is a fairly popular, interactive card game that has no "official" rules because there is no federation or authority that can formalize them. That is why there are several variations and rules of the game.
All 54 cards in the pack are used, including the black and red Jokers.
Macau is an individual game and cannot be played in pairs.
The number of players is a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4, so that after the cards are dealt, there are enough cards left to continue the game.
The winner is the first to run out of cards. When two, three or four players are playing, the last player left with cards in hand loses the game. When five or six players are playing, the game stops when the third player finishes.
After the cards are shuffled, each player is dealt 5 to 10 cards, then the next card in the deck is turned face up and the rest of the cards are placed face down on the table. The flipped card doesn't have to have a special function.
The starting player must place a card of the same symbol (eg red heart over red heart, club over club, etc.) or of the same value (number)/figure as the one turned up on the table. In turn, the other players may lay down cards of the same symbol or value (number)/figure as the previous player lay down. If a player has more than one card of the same symbol or value (number)/face, he may put all of them (or only part of them) into the bottom pile in one turn, if he has among them a card of the same symbol, color or value (number)/face as the last card from the bottom. (it is said to be played "on decks" or "doubles").
If that player can't or doesn't want to play any cards, they'll draw one from the remaining card pile (if it's the same symbol or value (number)/shape as the one previously played, they can put it directly on the table) and the turn goes to the next player. The remaining cards can be dealt in any order. If there are no face-down cards left in the draw pile, then the last card a player placed is discarded and the other cards are turned face-down after being shuffled. This becomes the new draw pile.
When a player is left with only one card in his hand, he must say "Macao", otherwise, if someone else says "Macao" in his place, he is obliged to "swell" (draw) 5 cards.
If one of the players put a card with a special function (2, 3, 4, Joker, K or A several times cards of the same value), then the next player will execute the instructions of this special card.
