The Mezio-Gião is a funerary landscape. In fact, more than the places where we lived here in prehistory, we know better the places where these communities deposited their dead - the papayas; as well as the art they created.

The papayas

Built with large slabs of granite and then covered with earth, the papaya trees rise on the slope that goes down from Gião to Mezio. Nineteen of these small and large artificial mounds are known here, but there will be even more to discover ...

The art

In the natural amphitheater of Gião is one of the most important rock art sites in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, with over one hundred engraved rocks.
In recent prehistory here was created a “sacralized” area full of symbolic, geometric figures with a large number of stylized human forms.
