Since its establishment in 1982, the Sunshine Foundation has been committed to serving burn victims and facial injuries. In the era when there was no universal health insurance and the disabled had no job opportunities, Sunshine found that many injured friends had to bear huge medical expenses on their own without insurance and work income, which was very difficult. In order to allow injured friends and more disabled people to have a stable working environment and stable income, in 1980, when Taiwanese society had not yet recognized that disabled people had employment ability, Sunshine spent two years to formally seek permission from the Taipei City Government to set up a car wash center for the disabled. Without any government subsidies, it raised NT$7 million on its own and established the Sunshine Car Wash Center. In 2002, it started its first gas station business in order to provide a stable employment opportunity for the disabled. At the time of its establishment, Sunshine also set the business purpose of "service first, break-even profit and loss". Until May 2016, it became the first social enterprise in Taipei City to transform from a sheltered workshop. It has been doing its best, even if it has suffered losses, to provide continuous and stable employment opportunities for the disabled in the workplace.
Therefore, in 2018, we clearly updated the mission of our Sunshine Car Beauty Center: to provide a sustainable employment environment and services, so that people with disabilities can work happily, independently and confidently. After clarifying this mission, we also became clearer about the goals we should strive for, whether it is the growth of our operations, the maturity of employee technical training, the generation of fixed profits, the increase in employee salaries, the promotion and care of physical and mental health, the promotion of functions and positions, the opportunity to start a business and join a franchise, and the dream of becoming a boss, and even the life planning of employees after retirement in the future. We try to make all the subsequent preparations as much as possible, hoping to contribute more to the workplace, technical training and life care of people with disabilities. This is what we continue to want to do, and we hope that more people and more companies can join in the celebration. At present, the Heping store of Sunshine Car Beauty Center is located under the Jianguo Bridge at the intersection of Jianguo South Road and Heping East Road. It is a workplace composed of 65 people, including 45 people with disabilities. The main services are car washing, car tidying, waxing, beauty and coating. The business hours are 07:00-22:00 every day.
In addition, the Sunshine Foundation operates social projects such as "Sunshine Citizen Gas Station" and "Sunshine Jianbei Gas Station". Adhering to the belief of "Happy work, there is hope", it provides employment opportunities, job training and diversified employee support programs for people with disabilities, hoping to help them achieve economic stability and self-reliance.
