In the Housing Enabler app, you’ll find all the instructions you need to assess your home! In this project, anyone can participate in mapping physical environmental barriers in their home, thereby contributing to increased knowledge about accessibility issues in Swedish housing.
After a few initial questions about the home – for example, whether it’s an apartment, townhouse, or detached house – the user is guided through the home and asked to answer about 30 questions. For each part of the home – entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and other areas – you’ll answer a set of questions. How high are the thresholds? How wide are the doors? Are there steps at the entrance? Some questions include illustrations to clearly show what you need to examine or measure. In addition to the app, all you need to carry out this assessment is something to measure with, such as a folding ruler or measuring tape.
The Housing Survey is a citizen science project where researchers enlist help from the public to tackle questions they wouldn’t otherwise be able to investigate on their own. The project is a collaboration with the non-profit association Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments (CASE) at Lund University. The app was developed by MiThings.
