《施公案》是中国公案小说与侠义小说的合流之作。它在同治、光绪年间曾续至10集。其后续作品还出现了《彭公案》等。此外又有《李公案》、《于公案》、《张公案》等，后整理全书共528回。书中大部份情节皆属虚构。《施公案》以施仕伦审查断案为线索而展开的情节，以施世纶知人善任、不畏权势，带领手下和他结交的有识之士为民除害的故事。情节中也歌颂了当时清官的清正廉洁、奉公守法的德行，也宣扬“惩恶扬善”思想、以及侠客们不避凶险的为民除害、伸张正义的品质。 通过断案揭破了当时社会暗中和作歹官僚、田主、奸盗、流氓等的丑恶行为。最终，吉士必获福报，恶人总有祸临，邪者定遭凶殃。
