This application contains the Biography of Sheikh Muhammad Nawawi al-Jawi al-Bantani or better known as Sheikh Nawawi al-Bantani. True Mahaguru from Banten, Indonesia.

Born in Tanara village, Tirtayasa sub-district, Serang district, Banten. In 1813 AD or 1230 H. From his pedigree, he was a descendant of the 12th sultanate of Maulana Syarif Hidayatullah (Sunan Gunung Jati, Cirebon), a descendant of Putra Maulana Hasanuddin (Sultan of Banten I) named Sunyara-ras (Tajul 'Arsy ). His Nasab continued with Muhammad through Imam Ja'far Assidiq, Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir, Imam Ali Zain Al-Abidin, Sayyidina Husain, Fatimah Al-Zahra.

The name of Shaykh Nawawi, Banten, is familiar to Indonesian Muslims. In fact, most people dub him as the second Imam Nawawi. The first Imam Nawawi was the one who made the Muslim Saheeh Syarah, Majmu 'Syarhul Muhadzab, Riyadhus Sholihin and others. Through his works that are scattered in traditional Islamic boarding schools which are still widely studied, the name of the kyai from Banten seems to be alive and continues to accompany the people to give a discourse of Islamic teachings that cool. In every majelis ta ‟lim his work is always used as the main reference in various sciences, from the science of monotheism, fiqh, Sufism to interpretation. His works are very famous.

Among the pesantren community Sheikh Nawawi is not only known as a scholar of the book, but also a great scholar. Nawawi has been credited with laying theological foundations and ethical boundaries of scientific tradition in pesantren educational institutions. He helped shape the intellectuals of the founders of the pesantren who also became the founding figures of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) organization. If KH. Hasyim Asy'ari is often referred to as a figure that cannot be separated from the history of the establishment of NU, so Sheikh Nawawi is his main teacher. On the sidelines of the study of the books of his teacher, often KH. Hasyim Asy'ari reminisces about the life of Sheikh Nawawi, sometimes remembering him to tears because of his great love for Sheikh Nawawi.
