OM (ॐ), aum; omkara (the correct name for the symbol) is the most important mantra in Hinduism, Buddhism and other religions. It is said to contain the knowledge of the Vedas and is considered to be the sound body of the Absolute, Shabda Brahman. Om is the sound of the universe and the seed that “fertilizes” the other mantras.
