Cooking utensils that have a non-stick coating contain polytetrafluoroethylene. This is a carcinogenic substance which is volatile and spreads toxic gases when heated at temperatures above 300 degrees Celsius. Replace cookware immediately if the non-sticking coating is peeling off.
