Our path began a long time ago, with activities at universities that carry out research, diving and expeditions in search of knowledge about reef environments and the organisms that inhabit these submerged paradises on the Brazilian coast. The initiative sparked interest in a group of very unique and colorful fish – the Budões.
Also known as parrotfish and very important for the balance and conservation of coral reefs, these species are now the focus of our Project.
With Petrobras Sponsorship through the Petrobras Socio-Environmental Program, new perspectives and actions for marine conservation, coral reefs and their “gardeners”, the Budiãos, became possible, in places and communities in the states that are part of our area of operations: Maranhão, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina.
A lot of responsibility and new activities, produced with dedication, are to come. Integrating people, research and public policies is one of the essential objectives for the conservation of budião to actually happen.
With these premises, the Budões Project was born: a multidisciplinary initiative that aligns cutting-edge scientific research with environmental education and scientific dissemination actions, promoting new ways of generating sustainable development for coastal communities along more than 9,000 km of coastline and proposing and discussing new Public Policies for a more inclusive and efficient management of natural resources. These and other socio-environmental initiatives are on our agenda and are our team's commitment to marine species and the environment.
