The Oxford 3000 is a list of the 3000 most important words to learn in English. It covers almost 90% of everyday English conversations.
It is very important to learn the most frequent words first, so you don't waste your time trying to memorise a huge collection of difficult words. Therefore, this list has been ordered by the frequency of usage.
Earlier, the word list used to be alphabetically ordered, like abate, abstract, abysmal, accordingly, acquisition, adapt..., thus discouraging children to go through it. But with the frequency ordering, the most used and easiest words come first, making children easy to master the list.

1. abase
2. abate
3. abdicate
4. abduct
5. aberration
6. abet
7. abhor
8. abide

10. abjure
THE USAGE FREQUENCY ORDERING:

1. the
2. of

4. to
6. a
