In total, the museum houses over 350,000 paintings, graphics, sculptures, furniture, coins, handicrafts, posters and maps. The museum's holdings include works from medieval sacred art in Westphalia to works of art from the Renaissance, the Baroque and the 19th century, to works of international modernism and contemporary art.
