“Platt mit Beo” is the app for anyone who wants to learn Low German or deepen their language skills! Beo, a language-gifted bird, is your digital teacher for extracurriculars. It guides you through ten varied lessons with tasks of different levels of difficulty that have been specially developed for this purpose. The app combines two versions and is aimed at learners throughout northern Germany. It enables you to learn the spelling of Johannes Sass (Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein) as well as the spelling of Renate Herrmann-Winter (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). Great emphasis was placed on the storytelling and the audio recordings, which were read by a woman for the West Low German part and by a man for the East Low German part. “Platt mit Beo” takes into account the skills of reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and pronunciation as well as Low German spelling. Special information on Low German grammar, the conjugation of verbs and a vocabulary memory function offer the learner in-depth learning opportunities. Additional information about the regional language Low German, its protection status, the history of the language and literature and much more is available to those interested in the expanded area.
Your own profile in the app reflects your learning success, while you can also play memory or quartet during breaks from learning.

“Platt mit Beo” is available as an offline version after downloading. This means you can learn Low German anywhere, even without an internet connection. The Beo app is a cooperation project between the Lower Saxony landscapes and landscape associations and the Competence Center for Low German Didactics at the University of Greifswald.
