The WDR Candidate Check app for the 2025 local elections is aimed exclusively at direct candidates for the mayoral, lord mayoral, and district council elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. All candidates are registered in advance via WDR. Users cannot log in to the app without registration.

In the app, all candidates answer three identical questions about the election. Each answer has a time limit of 60 seconds.

It's easy to use: Log in, read the questions, record your answers as a video, submit them immediately – done! Your submissions will then be published on the WDR Candidate Check website a few weeks before the election. They help voters form a well-founded picture of the candidates in their region before the election. The app supports you in conveying your messages authentically and easily – without a film crew and without any effort.
