The young people at Skjærgården are usually gifted young people who need to return to an ordinary life, with support for the challenges their autism brings.
Skjærgården's overall goal is to give the young people an understanding of and options for action in relation to their autism diagnosis, so that they no longer have to hide behind their eating disorder.
The diagnosis of autism contains both challenges and resources, many of the young people are diagnosed late and may have lived a life without the understanding and the framework they need. Many are therefore affected in terms of self-confidence, self-esteem and social strategies.
Most people have had a long road behind them, with the feeling of not fitting in, feeling wrong and using powers they don't have, which then eventually lead to breakdowns and an eating disorder.
The archipelago will clear up and treat these traumas and process past unpleasant experiences which stick in the young people and which they have carried with them until now.
When the young people stop at Skjærgården, it must be young people with courage for life and a feeling of being good enough, just the way you are!
