La Opinión de Murcia is the first newly created newspaper of Prensa Ibérica, since until its birth, in May 1988, it had only acquired consolidated headlines.

In the case of Murcia, the newspaper came to break with the journalistic monopoly that had existed in the Region since 1983 and managed to carve out an important niche in Murcian society.
