The Alájar Guide app is a free tool part of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU) project and developed by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). This app offers detailed information about Alájar, a picturesque town located in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche mountains, in the province of Huelva. Its features include:

History and Heritage: Alájar preserves a charming old town of Moorish origin, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, with narrow cobblestone streets and decorative "llanos" in front of many houses. Its name derives from the Arabic "la ajar" (the stone), a reflection of its mountainous character. The parish church of San Marcos, built in Gothic-Mudejar style with 18th-century extensions, features notable images and historic liturgical furnishings. The Peña de Arias Montano, a Natural Monument, dominates the surroundings; It is home to grottos such as the "King's Chair" and an early Christian baptismal font known as the "Queen's Bath," as well as offering spectacular panoramic views.

Activities and Nature: Alájar is ideal for active tourism and ecotourism. From its protected landscape within the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park, you can enjoy a multitude of hiking, orienteering, astronomical observation, and nature trails, in an environment that combines meadows, forests, and geological and historical heritage. Rural villages such as El Calabacino, El Collado, El Cabezuelo, and Los Madroñeros preserve authentic mountain traditions and architecture.

Local Gastronomy: The gastronomic offering faithfully reflects mountain traditions. Highlights include Iberian pork products (hams and cured meats), artisanal cheeses, and wild mushrooms such as gurumelo. Typical dishes include mountain soups, stews, migas (breadcrumbs), rib stews, wild asparagus, and sweets such as butter cakes or piñonate (pineapple fritters).

Festivals and Traditions: Alájar's celebrations reflect its local and religious identity. The Pilgrimage of the Queen of the Angels, on the second Sunday in September, brings together numerous pilgrims. Other notable festivals include the Pilgrimage of San Bartolomé, the Feast of San Marcos, the Holy Trinity, and the Feast of the Vote, which honors centuries-old traditions.

The app also includes an interactive street map to locate points of interest, bars, and restaurants, making it easier to plan your visit. Immerse yourself in the essence of Alájar and enjoy a unique experience with this comprehensive tourist guide.
